isn’t it neat to think about that love is something so treasured, worldwide, by any person, any nation, any tribe, and any language?

love is so powerful. it overflows the heart, softens the hard edges of people, and often transforms people into better versions of themselves.

love, i would argue, is one of the only emotions that naturally draws out selflessness.

“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭13‬ ‭

so let’s ask: why love?

love is something that fully stems from the Lord. not ourselves. love is good and holy, pure and lovely. and by sinful nature, our hearts are rooted in selfishness, if not rooted in Christ.

there are a few pieces of scripture we can look at that justify this, and i think that all of us could agree from our own life experiences too. for example, have you ever fallen into a bad habit over and over again, even though you don’t like the outcome? the way it leaves you feeling guilty, empty, blank?

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?”

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭17‬:‭9‬ ‭

“For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate…. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭7‬:‭15‬, ‭18‬

everyone — everyone — has walked into sin. and every true believer, has left actions of sin, feeling utterly convicted and wrong. sometimes it is frustrating, maddening, and disappointing, and sometimes we’ll “promise to never do it again.” until tomorrow…

the endless cycle is debilitating! it is the fault of sin. the fault of our flesh.

but because of love, there is hope. this great love does not justify our ability to sin. this great love sanctifies us from the penalty of sin.

a true believer’s desire should be to walk in line with the desire of our Savior, and therefore not the path of sin! that is not to say we walk the road perfectly. but that at the end of the day we strive to obediently practice the way and walk righteously.

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love.”

‭‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭

it requires great effort, and it is not always easy, but it is worth it. and every time we may stray, we can turn around — no matter how far off we may have regrettably walked — and Love will be waiting right there for us with open arms.

“Love” will be waiting. Love, with a capital L.

“So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”

‭‭1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭16‬ ‭

God is love! A Man called Love.

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

‭‭1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬-‭8‬

love is so powerful, it transforms people into better versions of themselves, and is arguably one of the only human emotions that creates the desire of selflessness. love is good! and this is why.

“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭13‬ ‭

God is why. God IS love.

Yahweh Ahavah.

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you.”

‭‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭12‬-‭14‬ ‭

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬

Yahweh Ahavah.

a love so fierce it would willingly walk to the grave. a love so fierce it would willingly receive nails through His palms and feet. a love so fierce, that no depth of the ocean, no power of hell, no scheme of man could ever hope to keep you from Him.

Love knows no bounds.

Jesus loves you.

with great love,

emily christine
